Bamboo Pole Sizes and Weights

Most bamboo poles will taper naturally from bottom to top - sometimes considerably - and there will be variations, even between poles of the same named size.

The walls of bamboo poles are approximately 1/4 inch thick, so the interior diameters are about 1/2 inch less than their outside diameters.

The charts below indicate the variations in approximate actual outside diameter measurements in inches of the various types of bamboo poles that available at Beautiful Bamboo.

Large Poles - Small Car

A customer who arrived in a mustang convertible purchased several large diameter bamboo poles last week.  But how was he going to take the 5" x 10' imported poles home in such a small car?  Not a problem!

West Indies Resort Wear uses Beautiful Bamboo poles in recent show display

"I've been told I have the BEST booth in the show," writes the owner of West Indian Resort Wear.  The repeat customer used our Designer-quality Domestically-grown bamboo poles to display her selection of sarongs, tees, resort wear, jewelery and other tropical-themed products at a recent trade show in Orlando.

An end view of 3" diameter x 10' long Imported Bamboo Poles.  As you can see in the photos, there is considerable variation in both the diameters and the thickness of the bamboo walls.

There's also a certain amount of variation in the color of all bamboo canes.  In the Imported Bamboo, the canes tend to be shades of tan.  On the left is the 1.25" x 6' pole followed by a 1.5" x 10, a 2" x 10 and a 3" x 10 pole.

While the four smaller diameter poles are a rice-colored shade of tan, the three largest sizes might more accurately be described as an amber-brown color due to the heat treating process and the particular variety of bamboo.  No matter what diameter pole you purchase, it is important to understand that all bamboos taper somewhat from base to top.  For more accurate size information, click on our BAMBOO SIZE CHART.
