This will also stress the plant a bit, so it would be expected for it to slow back a bit for awhile as it adjusts to the removal, then once it adjusts it should start growing again and send up new canes. beautifulbamboohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05621373866735381972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25699216.post-60198310312704394032018-04-18T08:13:13.911-04:002018-04-18T08:13:13.911-04:00I have lined my bamboo bed with a root stop liner....I have lined my bamboo bed with a root stop liner. So what do you do to encourage new large diameter culms once the area has filled up to capacity and has no more room for new large larger diameter shoots? Should I cut it in half and remove a section?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25699216.post-19306502380143380732014-06-10T20:49:17.019-04:002014-06-10T20:49:17.019-04:00Soil, water and fertilizer are the key elements to...Soil, water and fertilizer are the key elements to increase new shoot production. I'd suggest adding a thick top dressing of compost, manure or other rich soil amendment all around the base of the Yin-Yang with only 5 canes. In addition, fertilize it with a high-nitrogen fertilizer. We can mail some to you if you like. Make sure the bamboos are getting regular water and then just wait a little longer. New shoots are only now beginning. The plants will continue sending up more and more shoots as the season progresses. Depending on where you live, clumping bamboos can continue to produce shoots through November. By the end of this year your hedge should provide the privacy you seek.sherry boashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07310105811887347118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25699216.post-78969133399110459152014-06-10T20:35:08.673-04:002014-06-10T20:35:08.673-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.sherry boashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07310105811887347118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25699216.post-52037543639957407812014-06-10T19:30:56.361-04:002014-06-10T19:30:56.361-04:00We bought five 1-2 cane planters of ying yang thre...We bought five 1-2 cane planters of ying yang three years ago. Four of them had one cane each and one had two. We planted the five plants in a row the create a hedge and positioned the two cane plant in the spot that we wanted the most privacy. Three plus years later all of the others have 15 plus largercanes and are starting to grow together. The plant with two cane at the time of purchase now only has five small canes. They are all a bit more accepting of cold weather but even those hardier clumpers won't survive if temperatures consistently go down below 15-22 degrees in the winter.<br />sherry boashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07310105811887347118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25699216.post-41074227948775325252014-05-23T17:28:06.141-04:002014-05-23T17:28:06.141-04:00Is YIN YANG TIMBER BAMBOO good for North Carolina?...Is YIN YANG TIMBER BAMBOO good for North Carolina? May through November is the above-ground growing season for clumpers, with different varieties starting to shoot at different times throughout that period. Be patient. Your yin-yang will send up lots of new shoots this summer.sherry boashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07310105811887347118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25699216.post-43681963174767379152011-04-07T10:03:26.832-04:002011-04-07T10:03:26.832-04:00Mine is second year, still not seeing the new shoo...Mine is second year, still not seeing the new shoots, do you know when new shoots appear?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
